Couple new spots

My buddy Mark and I headed down to the Arkansas in hopes of missing the incoming snow storm.  We decided to try a couple of sections in bighorn canyon that we had not tried before.  With the flows up for winter the wading was tricky and crossings had to be done at wide parts.  The day started off sunny but windy and finished cloudy at calm by the end.

Our first stop was a section we had not tried before but looked good from the road.  It had a couple of islands to work around with pretty good structure everywhere.  We both tied on nymphing rigs but I could not seem to get anything while Mark caught a number of fish on the far side of the upper island.  After a couple of hours we pick up try a section with a few more islands further down in the canyon.

On the drive to the new section I find out Mark is catching them on a bwo nymph beadhead which was a pattern I did not have.  Needless to say I had some close patterns that I was sure would work.  They did not.  I tried have a dozen patterns over the next couple of hours working my way around the lower island.  I meet back up with Mark who has of coarse been slaying it and take a break before trying a few last holes.  I tie on a copper john to finish the day and fish a couple of nice big plunge pools.  I end up catching three and hooking another two in the last hour of fishing to top off a another great day of fishing with a buddy.

As we get to the car the snow starts falling and the snow storm just gets worse the closer we get to Denver.  Come to find out that everywhere else in the state had snow for most of the day while we just had wind and clouds until sunset.
