A day in Colorado Springs

Derron and I decided to head down to Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs for the day to do a little sight seeing, some fishing, and end off with the balloon glow in town.  The day was mostly cloudy but still warm while on the middle of the mountain but got cooler the higher up we went.

On the drive up Pikes Peak we decide to stop off at one of the lakes and try some fishing.  We drive to the far end of South Catamount Lake and try our luck for an hour or so.  We can see fish feeding on the surface in a number of different spots and feel pretty good about the spot.  I tie on a  red quill and start casting as far out as I can but no luck to be found.  I walk around the bend and can see a dozen blue damsels on the water.  I borrow a blue damsel fly from Derron and three or four casts in I land a 9" rainbow while twitching the fly.  That ends up being the only fish caught for the day, but it still pretty cool.

The rest of the day consisted of heading to the top of Pikes Peak(14,110') and then waiting out the rains until the balloon glow started.  The balloon festival was small due to the rains but still managed to get a couple nice shots.
