Late March on the Cache La Poudre River

Went up to the Poudre today with Derron on what was a pretty nice day out with a little more wind than expected.  We try a pullout still within where the fire went through and the water was really stained.  I tie on a nymph rig and start fishing through the runs.  After about ten minutes I have hooked my first fish on a pheasant tail nymph.  A little 9" rainbow to start the day off right.  We continue to fish this area for about an hour with no more action before we drive further upstream.

We stop at another pullout within the fire area and with the water still stained have no luck here either.  We decide to drive up past the fire area and try the area our friend Mark likes.  The water is finally clear but we unfortunately are having the same luck.  We decide to keep moving upstream and drive to both sections of the wild trout waters.  Once again we get no action through either of these sections and decide to call it a day with the bad weather moving in on us.

Tough day of fishing, but a good day of photography.
