Conejos River

Derron, Mark and I decided to head down to the Conejos River for five days at the beginning of July.  This is an area I have been wanting to fish for a while and could not have been more pleased when we arrived.  The Canyon the Conejos runs down is lined with volcanic rock cliffs and tons of aspen trees on the hillsides.

After the five hour drive and getting camp set up we hit the river for a half day of fishing.  We stay at a campground site right on the river, and only have to walk thirty yards to get on the river.  The water was low and clear and ready for some dry fly action with tons of bugs flying around.

Derron has a fish within minutes of starting while Mark and I are upstream from him.  I tie on a orange body caddis and start casting to a far side run.  Four casts in and I have landed a nice thick brown trout to start the trip off right.  We continue fishing for a while ending with everyone catching a good size fish for the day before heading back to camp.
