Cache La Poudre River with a buddy

Mark and I decided to head up to the Cache La Poudre for the day with hopes of trying some dry fly fishing.  Unfortunately the winds were still blowing pretty good making dry flies a challenge.  We start the day around where the south fork comes into the main stream.

Mark and I work our way downstream around an island with no luck even with each of us changing up flies a number of times.  By this time we both are throwing nymph rigs not only to increase our odds but to make casting into the wind a little easier.  After a break we start working our way back upstream and Mark ends up catching three fish in the afternoon while I cannot seem to get any kind of action at all.

We pack up and drive a ways upstream to see if the fishing will be a little better at a new spot.  We pick a spot neither of us have fished before and work our way upstream.  After a couple of hours and still no luck for myself, and only a couple more for Mark we call it day and head back to the car.

Skunked for the day, but still nice to be in the mountains with a buddy doing some fishing.
